PANEL GUIDE

Panel for F9F Panther by Mike Eustace
Fox Four Design Group: http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2korea.com

This is a set of Panels for the F9F-2/F9F-5 Panther which is adaptable for use with the F9F-6 Cougar. Now that I have a monster PC myself, it is designed to be used at 1024x768 resolution, and in CFS2 only.

The Cockpit is split into several separate panel elements in order to maximise the available colours.

These Panel elements can be individually accessible providing you have set up your keyboard assignments in the CFS2 SETTINGS/ CONTROLLER ASSIGNMENTS screen to control the appropriate commands.
I have completely configured my own keys, and my recommended settings are set out below. You may assign whatever keys you wish.

DISPLAY/HIDE PANEL WINDOW 1 assign 1
DISPLAY/HIDE ECU assign 2
DISPLAY/HIDE PANEL WINDOW 3 assign 3
DISPLAY/HIDE PANEL WINDOW 4 assign 4
DISPLAY/HIDE PANEL WINDOW 5 assign 5
DISPLAY/HIDE PANEL WINDOW 6 assign 6

Keys 1-6 normally control engine power settings, but who flies without a proper throttle these days?

The Panel windows for the Panther, and their initial status are as follows:

1. Canopy and Crisp-o-vision gauges - ON
2. Main Panel - ON
3. Gunsight - ON
4. Mirror - ON
5. GPS Korea - OFF
6. Cougar Radar indicator - OFF

Panels 1 to 4 are permanently on and create the main Cockpit view. The mirror doesn't reflect anything, but if you open a new window, insert the rear view and drag and resize it to fit the mirror, it looks pretty good.

Panel 5 is the AIRFIELD DIRECTION FINDER - ADF - based on Chuck Dome's GPS 100, and programmed by me to show Korean airfields and Carrier tracks only for the purposes of our Korean war Project. Use Shift+5 to open it, and click on the switch to activate. Then click on the back and forward arrows to cycle through the available airfields to obtain distance and direction.
With Carrier tracks, we have set a start and end co-ordinate. To find the Carrier, fly the needle to the nearest co-ordinate, then switch to the furthest co-ordinate. Now fly the needle towards this co-ordinate, and somewhere along the line you will find the Carrier.

Panel 6 is the Cougar Radar indicator, which is normally OFF. If you wish to use this Panel set with the F9F-6 Cougar aircraft, then use Shift+6 to open up this Indicator. The gauge doesn't work, but visually it transforms the F9F-5 Panther into an F9F-6 Cougar.

If you wish to remove the Cockpit Panels during Combat in order to maximise your view, it is recommended that you use the key combination Shift + [ (Instrument Panels On/Off).

Alternatively, you may wish to use the Panel cycle key "W" which removes the panels in favour of the M$ HUD

This panel has been created to accompany the Panther Aircraft created by Jerry Beckwith, which he is graciously allowing to be used here in conjunction with the CFS2 KOREAN WAR PROJECT from FOX FOUR.
The Panel is based on photographs in the book "Detail & Scale Vol. 15 F9F Panther, by Bert Kinzey" and "Flight Handbook F9F-6, -6P Aircraft, published by Schiffer Military History."

The Panel Set has been tested for use at 1024 x 768 resolution in CFS2 only. Because some gauges are native CFS2, it will not work in CFS1. Some gauges are also tied to Jerry Beckwith's flight model, and may not work in other aircraft.

NOTE: Your standard all-up Fuel gauge is unfortunately broken, so you are advised to refer to the digital totaliser beneath the yellow band-aid. Alternatively, you may choose to consult the tank-display-gauge which is activated by the orange-handle selector.
When asked why it's taking so long to get replacement parts, Crew Chief said: "Don't you know there's a War on?"
